The Leadership Academy is a program of The Jones Project, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in Auburn, Kansas. Most of the people who use this site are high school students, so we have written this plainly. If anything here is unclear, email damon@thejonesproject.org and we will explain it.
What we collect
When a student applies: their name, email address, cell phone number, graduating class and school; a parent or guardian’s name, phone number and email address; answers to the seven application questions; a photograph; and, optionally, a short video. We also record the moment the parent or guardian consent box was checked.
While a student is in the program: the work they turn in (written answers, documents, photographs and videos) and the written feedback staff give them on it.
If someone asks us to speak at a school: the name, email, phone number, role and school given on the request form, and the message itself.
We also keep the information needed to sign people in securely, and an internal record of staff actions such as admissions decisions and content edits.
Why we collect it
To select each year’s class, to run the eight-week program, and to contact students and their guardians about it. That is all. We do not use it for anything else.
Who can see it
Coach Parker, program staff, and the selection board. Nobody else.
We do not sell it, rent it, trade it, or share it for advertising, and we do not use it to train artificial intelligence. This site carries no advertising trackers and no analytics. The only cookies we set are the ones that keep you signed in.
Some companies host parts of the site on our behalf and can only act on our instructions: Supabase stores the database and files, Cloudflare Stream stores and plays video, Resend sends our email, and Vercel hosts the website.
Photographs and video
Videos and photographs are private. They are never published, never listed anywhere public, and cannot be found through a search engine. When a staff member watches a video, the site creates a temporary link that stops working within minutes and only works on this website, so it cannot be forwarded or shared.
The video is optional. An application can be submitted without one.
How long we keep it
- Applicants who are not selected: the photograph and video are deleted automatically twelve months after results are published. The written application is kept, so that a student who applies again the following year is not starting from nothing.
- Students who are accepted: their records are kept as part of the program’s records.
- Occasionally staff mark a single application so its photograph and video are kept beyond that window.
- Requests to speak at a school are kept for as long as we need them to respond and follow up.
Your choices
You can ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. A parent or guardian may ask on behalf of their child. Email damon@thejonesproject.org and we will respond.
Deleting an application while it is being considered means we can no longer consider it. We will say so before doing anything.
Students under 13
The Leadership Academy is for high school students. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If we learn that we have, we delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we change how any of this works, we will update this page and the date at the top. If a change materially affects people currently applying or enrolled, we will tell them directly.
